Almost four years since his death at the age of 56, Steve Jobs has become one of the most sought-after pioneers to have his story turned into a film.

But although the Apple co-founder received his own biopic in 2013, the film, which starred Ashton Kutcher as Jobs, was critically panned.

Fortunately his legacy is set for another big-screen outing after it was confirmed by Universal Pictures today that another real-life drama is being made about his remarkable life.

A much more lucrative name has landed the key role of Jobs with Michael Fassbender (Shame, 12 Years a Slave) the main man being cast. His involvement comes after the part had originally been given to Christian Bale (Dark Knight trilogy, The Fighter) only for the Welsh actor to drop out.

Other crucial figures have been filled with Seth Rogen (Knocked Up, The Interview) portraying Jobs’ earlier collaborator Steve Wozniak while Oscar-winning British actress Kate Winslet (Titanic, The Reader) is playing Macintosh marketing expert Joanna Hoffman.

The starry ensemble also features Jeff Daniels (Dumb and Dumber, The Newsroom) as ex-Apple CEO John Sculley, Katherine Waterston (Inherent Vice) as Jobs’s former partner Chrisann Brennan and Michael Stuhlbarg (A Serious Man, Boardwalk Empire) as early Mac developer Andy Hertzfeld.

Additionally, the biopic will be helmed by Oscar-winning British director Danny Boyle (Trainspotting, Slumdog Millionaire) and adapted from Walter Isaacson’s Jobs novel by Aaron Sorkin (The Social Network, The Newsroom).

Universal issued a brief statement about the upcoming film:

“Set backstage at three iconic product launches and ending in 1998 with the unveiling of the iMac, the film takes us behind the scenes of the digital revolution to paint an intimate portrait of the brilliant man at its epicentre.”

Production has begun in San Francisco but no release date has been confirmed as of yet.
