With the coronavirus causing chaos around the world, there has still been time for the worst films of last year to be dishonoured.

It was a claw-ful day for Cats as the widely-derided musical clinched six Razzie awards including the coveted Worst Picture prize. Having won the Best Director Oscar for The King’s Speech in 2011, Tom Hooper endured a double whammy as he picked up Worst Director and Worst Screenplay (alongside screenwriter Lee Hall).

Additionally, British comedian actor James Corden and Australian star Rebel Wilson had the misfortune of winning the Worst Supporting Actor / Actress gongs for their disastrous roles in the film. It’s sixth ‘honour’ was for Worst Screen Combo.

Elsewhere, John Travolta scooped his second Worst Actor award for his performances in two maligned films; The Fantatic and Trading Paint. The Worst Actress category was won by Hilary Duff for her portrayal of tragic Hollywood actress Sharon Tate in the horror flop The Haunting of Sharon Tate.

There were also two prizes for the concluding Rambo installment Last Blood as the action flick picked up Worst Remake / Rip-Off or Sequel and the Worst Reckless Disregard for Human Life and Public Property.

Other derided films like Godzilla: King of the Monsters, Hellboy and A Madea Family Funeral enjoyed a lucky escape as they went home empty-handed.

On a more positive note, former Razzie favourite Eddie Murphy overcame stern competition from the likes of Jennifer Lopez and Adam Sandler to win the Razzie Redeemer award for his acclaimed role in the blaxploitation biopic Dolemite is My Name.
