As the Star Wars franchise prepares to expand itself with a new big-screen trilogy (courtesy of Disney!), one of its original stars has revealed that he has been approached about returning for the first of the eagerly-anticipated sequels.
Mark Hamill, who played the heroic Jedi knight Luke Skywalker in the classic trio of films (1977-83), told Entertainment Tonight that creator George Lucas had spoken to him about reprising his role in Star Wars: Episode 7. He also mentioned that co-stars Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia) and Harrison Ford (Han Solo) were interested in returning as well.
“They’re talking to us. George wanted to know whether we’d be interested. He did say that if we didn’t want to do it, they wouldn’t cast another actor in our parts – they would write us out.”
“We’re in the stage where they want us to go in and meet with Michael Arndt, who is the writer, and Kathleen Kennedy, who is going to run Lucasfilm. Both have had meetings set that were postponed – on their end, not mine. They’re more busy than I am. I’m assuming, because I haven’t talked to the writers, that these movies would be about our offspring – like my character would be sort of in the Obi-Wan range, an influential character.”
“I want to make sure that everybody’s on board here, rather than just one.”
