For many people, next year will mark the 50th anniversary of one of the most shocking events in the history of Hollywood which saw actress Sharon Tate and her friends murdered by members of Charles Manson’s murderous cult.

As a result, some of the biggest names in film are collaborating on an upcoming biopic, which dramatises that harrowing night on August 9th 1969. Oscar-winning filmmaker Quentin Tarantino (Pulp Fiction, Inglorious Basterds, Django Unchained) is working on the biopic, which is entitled Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

Furthermore, he is collaborating again with two A-List stars who previously appeared in two of his more recent flicks in Oscar-winner Leonardo DiCaprio (The Departed, The Wolf of Wall Street, The Revenant) and the renowned Brad Pitt (Se7en, Moneyball, World War Z). Leo played plantation owner Calvin Candie in the violent western Django Unchained (2012) while Brad starred as Lt. Aldo Raine in the WWII thriller Inglorious Basterds (2009).

The pair have leading roles in the film with the official synopsis saying:

“Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is a story that takes place in Los Angeles in 1969, at the height of hippy Hollywood. The two lead characters are Rick Dalton (DiCaprio), former star of a western TV series, and his longtime stunt double Cliff Booth (Pitt). Both are struggling to make it in a Hollywood they don’t recognise anymore. But Rick has a very famous next-door neighbor… Sharon Tate.”

On the project, Tarantino said:

“I’ve been working on this script for five years, as well as living in Los Angeles County most of my life, including in 1969, when I was seven years old. I’m very excited to tell this story of an LA and a Hollywood that don’t exist anymore. And I couldn’t be happier about the dynamic teaming of DiCaprio & Pitt as Rick & Cliff.”

It is also understood that Australian beauty Margot Robbie (The Wolf of Wall Street, I, Tonya) is set to play Sharon, who at the time of her death was married to controversial film director Roman Polanski.

In what seems like an inappropriate decision by the studio, the film will be released in America on the 50th anniversary of the murders (August 9th 2019) though no UK date is yet known.
