LEGO hero Emmett bids to save his friends in The LEGO Movie 2 trailer

The last few years have seen the LEGO franchise expand itself beyond its toys following the release of three animated films.

The first of those flicks was The LEGO Movie which was a box-office smash back in 2014 and gained strong praise from critics and fans. As predicted by many, a sequel was green-lit and is due to arrive in cinemas early next year.

Simply entitled The LEGO Movie 2, everything does not look awesome for our favourite lego characters as the official trailer below suggests….

The plot follows on from the events of the first film as Bricksburg has now become a Mad Max-esque world after the events of ‘taco Tuesday’. The ever-optimistic Emmett (voiced again by Chris Pratt) is soon faced with a new challenge when an alien invader kidnaps his partner Wyldstyle (Elizabeth Banks) and the rest of his friends.

Fresh from the success of his own solo film last year, Batman is back with Will Arnett once again providing his voice. There are also returns for the likes of Channing Tatum (Superman), Jonah Hill (Green Lantern), Nick Offerman (Metal Beard) and Alison Brie (Unikitty).

The sequel also welcomes a couple of new cast additions with Tiffany Haddish (The Carmichael Show, Girl Trip) and Stephanie Beatriz (Pee-wee’s Big Holiday, Brooklyn Nine-Nine) contributing their voices.

Mike Mitchell, who previously helmed other animated flicks like Shrek Forever After (2010) and Trolls (2016), replaces original directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller who have producer and writing credits on the film.

The LEGO Movie 2 will be released in the UK next year on February 9th 2019.
