Kristen Wiig cast as DC Comics villain Cheetah in Wonder Woman 2

Almost a year ago, Wonder Woman completely dominated the box-office and kicked ass for DC Comics following the underwhelming results for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016) and Suicide Squad (2016).

To no one’s surprise, a sequel for the hit comic-book blockbuster is on its way with director Patty Jenkins and leading star Gal Gadot (Diana / Wonder Woman) both back onboard.

More news on the film has been revealed today with Jenkins confirming on Twitter that Oscar-nominated actress / writer Kristen Wiig has landed a key role in the upcoming sequel.

“So excited to confirm the most thrilling news. Yes! It’s true! So incredibly lucky to welcome the sensationally talented Kristen Wiig to our Wonder Woman family. Can’t wait to finally work with one of my favorites. And SO excited by what we have planned.”

Wiig, who best known for her work on Saturday Night Live, Bridesmaids (2011), Ghostbusters (2016) and Downsizing (2017), will be playing Cheetah (aka Barbara Ann Minerva), an international thief who is transformed into an animal goddess as part of a supernatural ritual.

The character has appeared in several incarnations of DC Comics over the past 75 years and has also been a member of the Suicide Squad and the Injustice Society.

The plot for Wonder Woman 2 is not yet known though the film’s release is currently scheduled for the autumn of 2019.
