Three years ago, Kenneth Branagh took centre stage as the legendary Belgian detective Hercule Poriot in the 2017 adaptation of the famous Agatha Christie novel Murder on the Orient Express.
Though the film performed well at the box-office, it also received mixed reviews despite bolstering a starry cast that included Daisy Ridley, Michelle Pfeiffer, Dame Judi Dench, Olivia Colman and Johnny Depp.
However, Branagh has now decided to tackle the story’s renowned follow-up Death on the Nile which looks set to be released before the end of this COVID-affected year.
The crime-drama’s official trailer has finally premiered and features another group of random yet recognisable stars….
Helmed again by Branagh, the plot sees Poirot investigate the murder of a young heiress whilst travelling on a steamboat across the River Nile.
Wonder Woman star Gal Gadot is the high-profile name amongst the eye-catching cast which also includes Annette Bening (American Beauty, Captain Marvel), Russell Brand (Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Rock of Ages), Armie Hammer (Call Me By Your Name, Hotel Mumbai), Rose Leslie (Game of Thrones, The Good Fight), Emma Mackey (Sex Education, The Winter Lake), Sophie Okonedo (Hotel Rwanda, Wild Rose), Letitia Wright (Top Boy, Black Panther) and French and Saunders duo Dawn French (The Vicar of Dibley, Delicious) and Jennifer Saunders (Absolutely Fabulous, The Stranger).
Aside from Branagh, the only other major actor returning from Murder on the Orient Express is Tom Bateman as Poirot’s old friend Bouc.
Death on the Nile is scheduled for release in the UK on October 9.
