Almost twenty years after it was released back in 1993, Jurassic Park remains one of the biggest box-office hits of our time. It was eventually followed by two disappointing sequels which failed to add to the thrills of its memorable original.

However talk of a fourth film has been ongoing for a decade with progress being a struggle according to director Steven Spielberg’s long-term producing partner Kathleen Kennedy. She gave an update to Coming Soon about the proposed sequel during a promotion for the 30th anniversary of E.T: The Extra Terrestrial.

“It’s really hard to keep these things going when there’s an expectation and a desire by the public and the audience to keep certain franchises going. As filmmakers, we often sit there going, ‘Okay. We have to answer the question: Why do another one?’ If you can’t answer that question, you shouldn’t be doing it. It’s tough. We’re trying to come up with a story that makes sense and isn’t going to disappoint people and is, hopefully, going to get people excited and reinvigorate the franchise. We’ve got to start with a script and the story. The studio is just like, ‘When?!’ They don’t care about the agony we’re going through!”

Kennedy also gave a very brief mention about the planned remake to Roald Dahl’s animated adventure The BFG.

“It’s live action and pretty far along.”

Looks like we’ve still got a long wait for Jurassic Park 4 anyway….
