With production almost set to begin on the hugely-anticipated sequel Star Wars: Episode VII, fans of the iconic sci-fi franchise will be delighted to hear that legendary composer John Williams will be returning to score the newest film.

Recently-appointed Lucasfilm president/producer Kathleen Kennedy confirmed the terrific news at the Star Wars celebration event in Germany that the veteran musician would be returning to score, having previously composed the music for all six Star Wars installments.

“I had breakfast with someone very important to the Star Wars family last Friday, and he has committed to working on Episode VII. And that is Mr John Williams. Every time I hear John’s music, it just gives me the chills. It’s so important to the saga.”

Five-time Oscar winner Williams, who has also produced memorable scores for the likes of Jaws (1975), the Indiana Jones series (1981-2008), E.T: The Extra Terrestrial (1982), Jurassic Park (1993) and War Horse (2011), also gave his reaction about the news via a pre-recorded interview.

“Of course I haven’t seen the script, the new story is still unknown to me, but I can’t imagine that there won’t be some references to the existing stories that we know that would necessitate and make appropriate the use of earlier themes.”

The news about Williams’ return is universally popular with a large majority of people who highly regard him as the greatest composer in film history. It is also refreshing to hear that themes from the previous Star Wars outings will be incorporated into the new one especially when it comes to nostalgic continuity.

J.J Abrams (Cloverfield, Star Trek) will be directing the upcoming sequel with screenwriter Michael Arndt (Little Miss Sunshine, Toy Story 3) penning the script. It is currently scheduled for a 2015 release.
