Jason Mamoa’s Aquaman battles to unite the Seven Kingdoms of Atlantis in Aquaman trailer

Last year’s comic-book epic Justice League saw fans get a glimpse of Jason Momoa (Baywatch, Game of Thrones) in his lucrative role as DC Comics superhero Aquaman.

The underwater being is now taking centre-stage in his own spinoff film which explores more of the character’s life in the upcoming blockbuster Aquaman.

The film’s official trailer was one of many to premiere at San Diego Comic-Con and can be viewed below:

Helmed by James Wan (Saw, Furious 7), the plot sees Arthur Curry / Aquaman face treachery on all fronts as he battles with various opponents underwater and abroad in order to unite the Seven Kingdoms of Atlantis.

The film features a bulky cast to support Momoa which includes Patrick Wilson (Fargo, The Conjuring 2) as Curry’s brother Orm, Dolph Lungren (Rocky IV, Masters of the Universe) as King Nereus, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Baywatch, The Greatest Showman) as Black Manta, Willem Dafoe (Platoon Spider-Man) as Nuidis Vulko, Temuera Morrison (Star Wars: Attack of the Clones, Green Lantern) as Curry’s father Thomas and Oscar-winner Nicole Kidman (Moulin Rouge!, The Hours, Lion) as Queen Atlanna.

Amber Heard is the other notable cast member to return from Justice League as she reprises her role as underwater queen Mera while additional support comes from Randall Park (Veep, Ant-Man and the Wasp), Michael Beach (Sons of Anarchy, The 100) and Graham McTavish (The Hobbit trilogy, Creed).

Aquaman will be released in the UK on December 14th.
