Hugh Jackman talks more about The Wolverine

Having played the role of the blade-welding warrior Wolverine in five X-Men films, you would think Hugh Jackman would try doing some new stuff. Not so….

Despite the original X-Men franchise ending in 2006, Jackman reprised his heroic role for the average prequel X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009) as well as a memorable cameo in X-Men: First Class (2011). He is now back in action for the sixth time with more focus being on Logan/Wolverine in the new sequel The Wolverine.

During a live chat on Youtube with with director James Mangold (Walk the Line), the Australian actor suggested that his iconic character would be more vulnerable in this instalment compared to the previous films.

“You think Logan can get out of anything because he has healing ability, and unless you lop his head off, you know he’s going to come back at you. In this movie, how do we put it? Let’s say they discover his kryptonite.”

Mangold also gave his perspective about Logan/Wolverine’s flaw.

“Yes, there’s a type of kryptonite metaphor. Some of the people that Logan’s up against may have found ways of getting to him that are different from what we’ve seen before. We’ve made a very concerted effort to try and make the film more real, and pull back a little on the kind of super-duper abilities of Logan. Like, he doesn’t bring down any airplanes.”

The follow-up to the X-Men Origins film sees Logan take centre stage in a story based on the comic mini-series by Chris Claremont and Frank Miller. It will follow him in Japan where he takes on sword-carrying samurai while confronting a mysterious figure from his past.

The film will be released next summer. Jackman in the meantime can be seen singing from the top of his voice in the upcoming musical epic Les Miserables which is due out at the end of this year.
