Gru meets his long-lost twin brother Dru in Despicable Me 3 trailer

In this day and age, animated films are still relevant to audiences especially when the competition is growing in amongst the studios.

While the likes of Disney, Pixar and DreamWorks have garnered strong success with their animated films, Universal Pictures have also staked their claim for box-office dominance with the Despicable Me franchise.

With two films and a prequel already out of the way, former supervillain Gru and his band of minions are now back for their latest outing in the form of Despicable Me 3.

Following the release of its first trailer a couple of months ago, a new preview has been uploaded online.

Directed again by franchise helmer Pierre Coffin and Kyle Balda, the plot sees Gru (voiced once again by Steve Carell) going up against Balthazar Bratt, a former child star turned supervillain who is driven to his bad ways after the cancellation of his television series. However, Gru also finds himself caught up in an awkward family reunion with his long-lost twin brother Dru (also voiced by Carell).

South Park co-creator and voice artist Trey Parker provides the vocals for Bratt with Jenny Slate (Bob’s Burgers, Zootopia) being the other newcomer to the franchise.

Series regulars Kristen Wiig (Lucy Wilde), Russell Brand (Dr. Nefario), Steve Coogan (Silas Ramsbottom), Miranda Cogrove (Margo), Dana Gaier (Edith), Nev Scharrel (Agnes) and Dame Julie Andrews (Gru’s Mum) are all back for the sequel.

Despicable Me will be released in the UK on 30th June.
