Get On Up’s Chadwick Boseman cast as Black Panther in five Marvel films

The past decade has been a strange one for Chadwick Boseman.

The 37 year old had mostly appeared in television shows prior to his big-screen career but the last couple of years have seen him earn stellar reviews for his role as real-life baseball player Jackie Robinson in 42 and more recently as legendary soul singer James Brown in the musical biopic Get On Up.

His new-found success has now landed him a major part in Marvel’s upcoming slate of superhero films for Phase 3. At an event held last night, Marvel’s President Kevin Feige confirmed that Boseman will play new Avengers character Black Panther in five of the upcoming releases.

The leather-wearing superhero is the alter-ego of African king T’Challa and has strong connections with the Fantastic Four.

The character will make his big-screen bow in the third Captain America film, Civil War which is due out in 2016. That will then be followed by his own individual outing which will be released on November 3rd 2017 before concluding with an appearance in the two-part Avengers: Infinity War installment.

Black Panther was one of several new films announced by Marvel with sequels to Guardians of the Galaxy and Thor confirmed as well as standalone productions for Captain Marvel and Doctor Strange.
