Having previously worked together on the Oceans trilogy (2000-2007), Hollywood pals George Clooney and Matt Damon are reuniting again for their latest big-screen outing, the war adventure The Monuments Men.

Directed by Oscar-winner Clooney (Good Night and Good Luck, The Descendents) himself, the starry production has premiered its first trailer.

Based on a true story, the film sees Clooney and Damon (The Departed, The Bourne trilogy) play a pair of US soldiers who are asked by their superiors to go into Germany during World War 2 to rescue some artistic masterpieces that have been stolen by Nazi thieves. The duo end up seeking help from a band of fellow soldiers who all have cultural experience with art and museums as they look to protect some of mankind’s greatest achievements.

Strong support in the cast comes from fellow Oscar-winners Cate Blanchett (Lord of the Rings trilogy, The Aviator) and Jean Dujardin (The Artist) as well as Bill Murray (Ghostbusters, Lost in Translation) and John Goodman (The Big Lebowski, Argo).

The film will be released in the UK on January 9th 2014, which should mean more possible awards consideration for Clooney and co.

In the meantime, the Hollywood pals are both in sci-fi action beforehand with Damon kicking-ass in the thriller Elysium while Clooney can be seen in the upcoming drama Gravity.
