Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman returns to action in the 1980s in Wonder Woman 1984 trailer

DC Films have certainly been licking their wounds this year having been in the shadow of Marvel’s enormous successes with Captain Marvel, Spider-Man: Far From Home and of course, Avengers: Endgame.

However, the studio are looking for a return to form next year with the much-anticipated sequel to one of their own cinematic achievements. After an impressive outing in the hit comic-book blockbuster Wonder Woman (2017), Gal Gadot is back to reprise her iconic role as Diana Prince in the upcoming Wonder Woman 1984.

An action-filled trailer for the film has been released and gives you a strong sense of 80s nostalgia with New Order’s ‘Blue Monday’ playing in the background.

Directed once again by Patty Jenkins, the film’s timeline moves forty years into 1984 as Diana adjusts to life in a modern world. However she soon finds herself in conflict with two new foes while also dealing with an unexpected reunion.

The sequel welcomes two strong cast additions as the villains with Kristen Wiig (Bridesmaids, Ghostbusters) playing The Cheetah and Pedro Pascal (Game of Thrones, The Mandalorian) portraying Max Lord.

Despite his character’s death in the previous installment, Chris Pine reprises his role as heroic pilot Steve Trevor while there are also returns for Robin Wright as Antiope and Connie Nielsen as Hippolyta.

Wonder Woman 1984 will be released in the UK on 5 June 2020.
