Paul Rudd and Leslie Mann return as mature couple Debbie and Pete in official trailer for Knocked Up spin-off This is 40

Those who watched the cracking rom-com Knocked Up in 2007 may remember that Katherine Heigl’s character Alison had a quirky sister named Debbie who was suspicious of her husband Pete in a scene-stealing subplot.

Well five years after Knocked Up, the bickering husband and wife played by Paul Rudd and Leslie Mann are back with their own spin-off film This Is 40 which has unveiled its official trailer.

Mann was quoted by the LA Times about what the film would be about:

“It’s about getting older. What the hell happened? Am I making all the right choices? Is this where I’m supposed to be? Is this it? All of those dreams that you had when you were young, all of the possibilities, when you lock into marriage and kids, do the possibilities dwindle or go away?”

Judd Apatow (married to Mann in real life) has returned to direct the spin-off which features a solid support cast including Bridesmaids trio Melissa McCarthy, Chris O’Dowd and Annie Mumolo plus Megan Fox and John Lithgow. Oh, and Jason Segel pops up too in what must be his 100th film of the year already!

Having enjoyed Knocked Up, I’m glad to see the Debbie and Pete characters get their own film, particularly with Rudd and Mann being two terrific comedy actors and there are enough raunchy jokes in the trailer to make it watchable.

2012 looks promising for comedy films with 21 Jump Street being a surprise hit while the likes of This Is 40, The Dictator and Ted are still to come….
