Following the worldwide success of Gone Girl (2014) as both a novel and a film, it looks as though the mystery genre is performing well again.

The latest story looking to make the impressive status from page to screen is British author Paula Hawkin’s acclaimed thriller The Girl on the Train.

The film, which stars Emily Blunt (Edge of Tomorrow, Sicario) in the lead role, has premiered its official trailer online.

Directed by Tate Taylor (The Help, Get On Up), the plot sees Blunt play Rachel, an alcoholic who is struggling to get over the end of her marriage.

Whilst on board a New York train, she passes by her old home where she spies on a young woman named Megan who then mysteriously disappears. Rachel is then questioned about the disappearance and decides to uncover the truth for herself despite the potentially dangerous consequences.

Blunt is supported by a solid cast which includes Haley Bennett (The Equalizer, Hardcore Henry) as Megan, Rebecca Ferguson (The White Queen, Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation) as Anna, Justin Theroux (American Psycho, Mulholland Drive) as Tom, Luke Evans (The Hobbit trilogy, Dracula Untold) as Scott, Edgar Ramirez (Vantage Point, Point Break) as Dr. Kamal Abdic, Allison Janney (The West Wing, Mom) as Officer Riley and Lisa Kudrow (Friends, The Comeback) as Monica.

The Girl on the Train will be released on October 7th.
