Dreamworks to make Need for Speed film for 2014

In recent times, there’s been talk of different computer games getting big-screen treatments with Metal Gear Solid and Splinter Cell on top of the list. But it is a racing car game which has landed the lucrative deal after Dreamworks announced that a Need for Speed film would be made for 2014.

Hollywood director Steven Spielberg was the unlikely person to reveal the news after Dreamworks collaborated with Electronic Arts to make the film. He issued a statement talking about its potential and those who would be involved.

“I’m excited about getting back into the creative trenches with John and George Gatins and my partners at EA to bring to life an exhilarating script based on an epic video game that seems to have been made for the movies. This is a big piece of business for DreamWorks and we are grateful to Frank Gibeau, Pat O’Brien, Kevin Maher and John and George for choosing us to deliver their goods.”

Act of Valour co-director Scott Waugh will take the reins in directing duties. Although the film will not be based on a specific game, it will stay faithful to the popular car game.

In the meantime, the next game in the franchise Need for Speed: Most Wanted is set for release on October 20th.
