Downton Abbey film officially in the works, original cast set to return

Downton Abbey fans, brace yourselves….

Three years after ITV’s popular period drama came to end, speculation has been rife about whether the series would come back as a film. That speculation is now a reality after the official Downton Abbey account tweeted today that a big-screen outing is defintely happening.

One cast member who has already spoken about the news is Joanne Froggatt who is set to reprise her Golden Globe-winning role as maid Anna Bates. She tweeted:

Froggatt is set to be joined in the big-screen outing by the show’s principal cast which includes Hugh Bonneville (Robert Crawley, Earl of Grantham), Michelle Dockery (Lady Mary Crawley) and Dame Maggie Smith (Violet Crawley, Dowager Countess of Grantham). The latter star won a Golden Globe and THREE Emmys for her portrayal of the waspish Violet. The rest of the returning cast members will be announced in due course.

At the moment, no plot details or filming schedules are known as of yet.
