Creed’s Tessa Thompson joins Thor: Ragnorak, Natalie Portman NOT returning

As most of Marvel’s cinematic heroes prepare for all out war in the upcoming Captain America: Civil War, one significant character to miss out on appearing in that is Thor.

The Norse god will have to wait until late next year to return to our screens for the threequel Thor: Ragnorak.

However it looks as though main lead Chris Hemsworth will be joined by a new female co-star as the Marvel Cinematic Universe continues to grow.

Following her recent turn as Adonis Creed’s girlfriend Bianca in the Rocky spinoff Creed, Tessa Thompson has been cast as a mysterious superhero who will also become romantically involved with Thor.

Thompson’s appearance pretty much confirms that previous Thor love interest Jane Foster (as played by Oscar-winner Natalie Portman) will not be back for the upcoming third film of the trilogy.

The news comes as no surprise to some given that Portman was unhappy during the making of Thor: The Dark World (2013) when Marvel dropped original director Patty Jenkins (Monster) from the production.

Two time Oscar-winning actress Cate Blanchett (Lord of the Rings trilogy, Carol) has reportedly been cast as Ragnorak’s main villain while original Thor stars Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Jaimie Alexander (Sif) and Anthony Hopkins (Odin) are also back on board.

It is also looking likely that Thor will be joined by fellow Avenger Bruce Banner a.k.a the Incredible Hulk with Mark Ruffalo continuing in the iconic role.

Helmed by Taika Waititi (What We Do in the Shadows), Thor: Ragnorak will be released in cinemas on November 3rd 2017.
