Chloe Moretz discusses more about Carrie remake

Having recently signed up to play Carrie White in the remake of Brian De Palma’s horror classic Carrie, Chloe Moretz has given her perspective about how different the new film will be compared to the 1976 version.

In an interview with ComingSoon, the Kick-Ass and Hugo actress suggested that the remake, which is being helmed by Boys Don’t Cry director Kimberly Peirce, will be based more on the Stephen King novel than the De Palma film which starred Sissy Spacek in the original role.

“It’s going to be very well done. I don’t want to jinx it, but Peirce is a genius, genius, genius director. I would never do it with someone that I don’t trust. I trust her more than a lot of the directors I’ve worked with. She’s the right woman for the job. I’m actually not looking at the original, even though De Palma’s movie was one of the best movies ever made. It’s completely iconic, and I’m proud to be able to be doing a retooling of it. We’re kind of going off the book. It’s darker and much more psychological. More Black Swan. You’re really looking into her mind and it really looks into the relationship of Margaret and Carrie. It’s set in modern time, so it’s a lot different.”

Filming is due to start on June 1st with Moretz the only major star signed on so far. However there has been talk about four-time Oscar-nominated actress Julianne Moore being offered the role of Carrie’s religiously-psychotic mother Margaret (played by Piper Laurie in the original) but nothing has been confirmed yet. The only other official news is that the release date will be March 15th 2013.

I will admit to being very spooked by Carrie when I watched it a few years back and probably wouldn’t want to go through the same nerve-wracking experience again but this particular remake is one that might actually do well with a teenage-mature audience. Moretz is a young talent with great potential who should make a promising Carrie and if Moore can sign on too, then I can’t see no reason why it shouldn’t be a hit with modern audiences. The original though is still as chilling as ever….
