Channing Tatum to play Gambit in next X-Men film

Channing Tatum’s profile in Hollywood is continuing to rise every year particularly with his roles in 21 Jump Street, Magic Mike and White House Down.

But the popular ladies man is now set for a key role in one of the biggest film franchises of recent years.

Tatum will be taking on the role of comic-book character Gambit in the next film of the X-Men Series which is likely to be Apocalypse.

Producer Lauren Shuler Donner recently named Tatum as her ideal choice to play the character, before it emerged that he was in talks for a potential solo film.

She has finally confirmed the casting and went on to explain why he was now involved.

“He’s a rogue, he’s a rascal, just like Remy LeBeau. He can handle the action, as we know, and he’s got a real good heart, I know him personally.

He’ll be great for Gambit, and he’s a southerner too, he understands that world, and you know Gambit loves New Orleans.”

Tatum previously expressed interest in the role when he told MTV recently:

“I met with Lauren Shuler Donner. And I would love it. Gambit is really the only X-Man I’ve ever loved.

I mean I’ve loved them all, they’re all great, but I guess from being down south – my dad’s from Louisiana, I’m from Mississippi, Alabama, Florida – I don’t know. I just related to him.”

Magical comic-book character Gambit first appeared on our screens in X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009) when he was portrayed by Taylor Kitsch (Battleship, John Carter).

The latest X-Men film Days of Future Past will be arriving in the UK next week.

As for Tatum, he will next be seen reprising his role as undercover cop Greg Jenko in the comedy sequel 22 Jump Street as well as starring in the upcoming fantasy adventure Jupiter Ascending.
