Caesar and his apes battle with an army of humans in War for the Planet of the Apes trailer

Over the last few years, the rebooted Planet of the Apes franchise has gained a lot of acclaim from critics and audiences following the combined successes of Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011) and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (2014).

The third chapter of the action-prequel series is now on its way in 2017 which is already promising to be a mammoth year for blockbuster films in general!

Andy Serkis reprises his role as ape leader Caesar in the upcoming War for the Planet of the Apes which has premiered its official trailer.

Helmed by Dawn director Matt Reeves, the plot sees Caesar and his ape companions being forced into a deadly conflict with an army of humans who are led by a ruthless Colonel. After the apes suffer great losses, Caesar’s dark side threatens to pour out as he vows to avenge his kind by leading his species into an epic battle with the humans that will determine the fate of Earth’s future.

Woody Harrelson (Cheers, The Hunger Games series) plays the Colonel with additional support coming from Steve Zahn (Treme, Dallas Buyers Club), Ty Olsson (X-Men 2, Nerds and Monsters), Max Lloyd-Jones (Switched at Birth, Once Upon a Time) and Amiah Miller (Lights Out).

There are also returns for the actors portraying apes which include Judy Greer (Cornelia), Karin Konoval (Maurice) and Terry Notary (Rocket) though Dawn of the Planet of the Apes stars Jason Clarke and Keri Russell are not involved in this outing.

War for the Planet of the Apes will be released in the UK on 14th July 2017.
