Bryan Cranston is blacklisted Hollywood screenwriter Dalton Trumbo in official trailer for Trumbo

Three years since bidding farewell to his iconic character Walter White in the landmark television series Breaking Bad, actor Bryan Cranston has been slowly trying to prove he can repeat his multi-award winning success onto the big-screen.

The Argo and Godzilla star is now set for a crucial lead role in the upcoming Hollywood biopic Trumbo, a film that is already treading attention for Cranston’s performance.

The official trailer for the drama was released online last night.

Directed by Jay Roach (Austin Powers: Man of Mystery, Meet the Parents), the film charts the true story of how eccentric screenwriter Dalton Trumbo was accused of being a communist during the 1950s. Despite being blacklisted, he decided to fight the US government over his punishment but would continue to contribute scripts to various Hollywood productions.

Diane Lane (Unfaithful, Man of Steel) and Elle Fanning (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Maleficent) co-star as Trumbo’s wife and daughter with additional acting support coming from Dame Helen Mirren (The Queen, Hitchock), Louis C.K (Louis, American Hustle), Michael Stuhlbarg (Boardwalk Empire, Hugo), Stephen Root (Office Space, King of the Hill), Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (Oz, Lost) and John Goodman (The Big Lebowski, Argo).

Trumbo will be released in the UK on January 22nd 2016.
