Bond 25 confirms Rami Malek as new villain, Phoebe Waller-Bridge to co-write script

After dazzling audiences with his portrayal of legendary singer Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody (2018), Rami Malek is now hoping to leave us shaken and stirred with his next film role.

The recently-crowned Oscar-winning actor is set to play the main villain of the long-awaited 25th James Bond film which is still yet to have a title. Details of Rami’s character have yet to be revealed though it is understood that it will involve the antagonist “being armed with dangerous new technology”.

On his casting, the Egyptian-American actor said:

“I’m stuck here in New York in production but I’m very much looking forward to joining the whole cast and crew. I will be making sure Mr Bond does not have an easy ride in this, his 25th outing. See you all soon.”

The news was one of many made during today’s launch event in Jamaica which saw the producers and numerous cast members confirm their involvements in the latest film of the beloved spy franchise.

Another significant signing for the upcoming blockbuster is of Fleabag and Killing Eve screenwriter Phoebe Waller-Bridge who is set to pen the film’s script alongside official director Cary Joji Fukunaga (True Detective, Maniac).

On the cast side of things, Daniel Craig is returning for his fifth and FINAL appearance as heroic spy James Bond with fellow franchise veterans Ralph Fiennes (M), Ben Whishaw (Q), Naomie Harris (Eve Moneypenny), Rory Kinnear (Tanner) and Lea Seydoux (Madeline Swann) also on board.

Having sat out previous Bond flicks Skyfall (2012) and Spectre (2015), Jeffrey Wright is back to reprise his role as CIA operative Felix Leiter.

Meanwhile, there are other new cast members to welcome to the series (aside from Rami Malek) which include Ana De Armas (Blade Runner 2049, Yesterday), Billy Magnussen (Game Night, Maniac), David Dencik (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Top of the Lake: China Girl) and Lashana Lynch (Bulletproof, Captain Marvel).

The film’s official plot summary reads:

“Bond has left active service and is enjoying a tranquil life in Jamaica. His peace is short-lived when his old friend Felix Leiter from the CIA turns up asking for help.

The mission to rescue a kidnapped scientist turns out to be far more treacherous than expected, leading Bond onto the trail of a mysterious villain armed with dangerous new technology.”

Production has already begun on the new Bond film which is set for release next April.
