Benedict Cumberbatch voices the Grinch in official trailer for The Grinch

“You’re a mean one, Mr Grinch”

Those are the immortal words that best describe the Grinch, a character who has a love-hate relationship with Christmas.

Created by Dr. Seuss way back in 1957, the green anti-hero is set to be immortalised onto the big-screen for a third time in the upcoming animation The Grinch.

In preparation for its release later this year, Universal Pictures have unveiled the film’s official trailer.

Directed by Scott Mosier (Producer of Clerks, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back and Zack and Miri Make a Porno) and Yarrow Cheney (The Secret Life of Pets), the film tells the story of a cynical grump who sets out to steal Christmas, but then finds his misery-spreading mission challenged by a young girl’s generous holiday spirit.

Renowned British actor Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock, Doctor Strange) provides the voice of the Grinch though there is no news yet on other voice artists.

The classic tale was previously adapted to the big-screen in Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas! (1966) and more recently, the Ron Howard hit How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000) which starred Jim Carrey in the title role.

The Grinch will be released in the UK on November 9th.
