Benedict Cumberbatch is the Sorcerer Supreme in official trailer for Marvel’s Doctor Strange

As his acting career continues to soar, Benedict Cumberbatch has now become the latest big name to link up with the Marvel universe.

The Oscar-nominated star of Sherlock, The Imitation Game and The Hobbit trilogy finally makes his comic-book bow as Marvel’s latest cinematic superhero in the form of the mystical Doctor Strange.

The character’s big-screen outing has finally premiered an official trailer which can be seen below:

Directed by Scott Derrickson (The Last Exorcism of Emily Rose, The Day the Earth Stood Still), the story focuses on arrogant surgeon Dr. Stephen Strange who suffers a car accident that ruins his career. However his fortunes change when a sorcerer takes him under his wing and trains him to defend the world against evil.

As you would from a Marvel flick, the film features a stellar support cast which includes Rachel McAdams (The Notebook, Spotlight) as Strange’s surgeon colleague/potential love interest, Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years a Slave, The Martian) as sorcerer Baron Mordo who helps Strange forge a new identity and Mads Mikkselsen (Casino Royale, Hannibal) as the film’s main villain.

Oscar-winner Tilda Swinton (The Chronicles of Narnia, We Need to Talk About Kevin) also features as The Ancient One along with Michael Stuhlbarg (Boardwalk Empire, Steve Jobs), Benedict Wong (Marco Polo, The Martian), Scott Adkins (The Bourne Ultimatum, Grimsby) and Amy Landecker (Project Almanac, Transparent).

Part of the Phase 3 stage of the Marvel Universe, Doctor Strange will be released in cinemas on November 4th.
