Though they may not be quite as lavishing as the film equivalent, the TV BAFTAs revealed their winners last night with the crime drama Appropriate Adult sweeping the acting awards with three wins.
The gritty drama which focused on the relationship between ‘appropriate adult’ Janet Leach and serial killer Fred West claimed leading acting wins for its stars Emily Watson and Dominic West as well as a supporting actress win for Monica Dolan as Rose West.
Surprisingly though, it missed out on a fourth win for Best Mini-Series losing out to This Is England 88′ (disappointingly its stars Joe Gilgun and Vicky McClure went home empty-handed).
Andrew Scott was the other acting win for his role as Moriarty in the BBC series Sherlock although its main star Benedict Cumberbatch lost out in Best Actor.
The other big programme I rooted for finally claimed its well deserved victory in Best Continuing Drama as Coronation Street clinched the award ahead of Eastenders (proving that the critics are better than the public when it comes to voting!).
The painful Celebrity Juice won the Audience Award (oh the irony!) while Graham Norton and Jennifer Saunders were amongst the TV personalities to win gongs.
Rolf Harris was given the BAFTA Fellowship for his contributions to television over the years.
The show was hosted by Dara O’Brien at London’s Royal Festival Hall last night. The full list of winners is below:
