One of the greatest mystery stories is making a big-screen return later this year as Agatha Christie’s Murder on the Orient Express gets given the remake treatment.

First conceived as a novel by Christie in the 1930s, the story has been brought to life on stage and television although its most acclaimed adaptation was the 1974 film from Sidney Lumet.

Like that particular outing, the 2017 remake features a talented cast led by Kenneth Branagh (Henry V), who also happens to be directing the mystery drama. The film’s official trailer has now been released online.

The well-known plot centres on a murder that takes place on the Orient Express with the investigation being led by Belgian detective Hercule Poirot (Branagh).

Hollywood superstar Johnny Depp (Pirates of the Caribbean series, Finding Neverland, Black Mass) will play the key part of Ratchett, the man whose death sparks the crucial investigation.

Fresh from her breakthrough cinematic role as Rey in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the lovely Daisy Ridley features as Mary Debenham. Daisy is in good company with the likes of Dame Judi Dench (Shakespeare in Love, Skyfall) as Princess Dragomiroff while Michelle Pfeiffer (Scarface, mother!) and Josh Gad (Frozen, Beauty and the Beast) portray Mrs Hubbard and Hector Macqueen respectively.

The rest of the ensemble cast includes Oscar-winner Penelope Cruz (Volver, Vicky Christina Barcelona), Willem Dafoe (Platoon, The Grand Budapest Hotel), Derek Jacobi (The King’s Speech, Vicious), Olivia Colman (Broadchurch, The Night Manager), Lucy Boynton (Sing Street, Gypsy), Tom Bateman (The Tunnel, Jekyll & Hyde) and Leslie Odom Jr (Red Tails, Smash).

Murder on the Orient Express will be released in the UK on November 3rd.
